A recent study released by Taiwan Fund for Children and Families shows that disadvantaged children tend to suffer from developmental delays, comparing to those from ordinary families. The gap is even more evident when it comes to language abilities. After analyzing the report, the foundation re-emphasizes the importance of early intervention as a chance to provide these children with a better starting point in life. The five-year-old Xiao Yu was not able to speak in front of a crowd just 6 months ago, while, back then, she had trouble express herself also. Her father said that, after divorce, he was busy with work and didn't realize that his daughter suffers from delayed learning development problem. According to the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families, all children of different backgrounds develops in similar speed except for those from disadvantaged background, their social abilities, character development and finer movement development would lack behind by 50% on the average, while language learning ability would be 70% behind. The main reason would be lack of learning stimulation and not because those children are less intelligent. Currently, Xiao Yu is part of the personal assistance program of the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families. In the past 6 months, her improvement was drastic, which pleased everyone. The foundation pointed out that, helping those from the disadvantaged background to gain more learning abilities would help them with a fair chance at starting point. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
