A team of architects from the National Cheng Kung University recently unveiled Taiwan's first "Green Education Center," which boasts of eco-friendly designs and materials. And it costs less than 90,000 NT dollars to build. Even though the construction of the outdoor ecological pool and the green construction are still going on, the inner part of the building is almost finished. The Education Center for Subtropical Green Buildings is going to be inaugurated this month. Even before its inauguration, the center has attracted a huge crowd of visitors because it is designed specifically for sub-tropical climate and is also 100% made in Taiwan in terms of material, designs and construction. The conference hall which can accommodate a huge crowd of audience is usually the most energy-consuming space in the university. However, with two sets of air convection designs, the conference hall can stay adequately ventilated without using air conditioning for four months. Besides, oblique lighting will bring even light distribution to every seat while saving 30% of the energy use at the same time. Professor Lin Hsien-Te of Architecture Department of NCKU, who is also an expert in green buildings, said that the building is 100% green, from its construction materials to the maintenance afterward, which shows that green building is not an impossible dream. Still, he hopes that the government can give rewards as incentives for more people to develop green buildings. In addition, not only the construction materials are recycled materials, the inner decoration materials are also green, such as carpet made of corn, and window curtains made of PET bottle yarns. The Green Magic School has proved that eco-friendly buildings are not as difficult as we expected. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
