If you're planning to make trips by train during the Chinese New Year holidays, please be sure to book your tickets early. According to the Taiwan Railways Administration, more than 30,000 tickets for the western route were sold in the first minute after they were available online.

Many people woke up shortly after 5 a.m. on Friday to book their tickets home for the Chinese New Year holiday.

Others said that they were always assured of a seat by booking interval tickets.

Taiwan Railway began accepting online reservations for its western routes for the Chinese New Year holiday at 6 a.m. on Friday, and more than 17,000 transactions for 33,000 tickets were recorded in the first minute.

According to Taiwan Railway statistics, several peak travel days, including February 1st, 5th, 6th, and 7th, have already sold out. Meanwhile, more than 390,000 tickets for eastern route tickets have been sold since they became available on Thursday.

Taiwan Railway will be publishing the number of remaining available seats on its website at 11:30 p.m. daily.

Those with reservations are reminded to pick up their tickets within two days to avoid cancellations.
