Chinese tycoon Chen Guangbiao started his philanthropic visit to Taiwan on Wednesday evening, promising that he will keep a low profile and show respect for the dignity of the disadvantaged. And a 67-year-old underprivileged woman, who had been waiting overnight for the billionaire at the Grand Hotel, received a cash grant of 70,000 NT dollars from Chen yesterday morning and became his first beneficiary this time.

On his first morning in Taiwan, Chinese philanthropist Chen Guangbiao met with a woman who'd waited outside his hotel through the night.

The woman, who is in need of financial assistance, spent some time telling Chen about her hardships. Afterwards, Chen presented her with red envelopes containing 70,000 NT.

The elderly woman was extremely moved, and expressed her gratitude through tears.

In response to criticism that his visit has become too high-profile, Chen said that he will respect local customs while attending large-scale charity events, and that he will no longer insist on meeting with donation recipients in person.

The members of the Chinese delegation will be wearing special badges during their visit, and hope to be able to do some good during their stay in Taiwan.
