The Ministry of the Interior is planning to offer another subsidy to boost the birth rate of the country. The new program subsidizes each child aged from 0 to 2 with allowances between 3,000 and 5,000 NT dollars per month. And what are the requirements? Here on CTS, we explain.

Last year, Taiwan had the lowest birth rate globally with only 166 thousand newborns tallied.

In response to the situation, the Ministry of Interior has come out with a child allowance plan that will target children under the age of two.

However, the allowance programs comes with a few limitations.

Families that are qualified for the program must have an account deposit of less than 150 thousand NT dollars, real estate value lower than 6.5 million NT dollars.

For families with annual earnings between 600 thousand NT dollars to 1.1 million NT dollars, their first child will get 4 thousand NT dollars, and any child more than one gets 5 thousand.

Families with annual incomes of between 1.1 to 1.5 million NT dollars get 3 thousand for their first child, 4 thousand for their second child, and 5 thousand for their third child.

Many people think that instead divvying out allowance to increase birth rate, the government should put more funds into developing kinder care centers, a factor they deem to be much more important.

The Ministry of Interior says that such a plan will require 8.3 billion NT dollars and will take more evaluations and discussions before its implementation as early as next year.
