This year's main star, "Baby", has been lit, officially kicking off the Taipei Lantern Festival at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall that will last until the 20th of this month. During the opening ceremony, President Ma Ying-jeou expressed his hope, which is to boost the nation's birth rate in the Year of the Rabbit. This years Taipei Lantern Festival's main lantern is a rabbit named BABY, which was lit officially on Friday night at the opening ceremony to kick off the event. The water and laser lighting show surround the main lantern, which all children at the site were thrilled to see. Though Friday night was cold and wet, the venue was still packed with people, who were entertained by the 3 and half-minute water and light show, which brought warmth to them in the cold winter night. It is the 14th year of the Taipei Lantern Festival. President Ma Ying-jeou was at the opening ceremony as he reminded the public during his speech that rabbit symbolizing fertility, which was a reminder to the public to help raise the birth rate of the country. The Taipei 101 building also showed pattern of rabbit for the Year of the Rabbit. At the lantern festival, many lanterns from schools around Taipei were displayed.
