In a bid to ease the strained relationship between Taiwan and the Philippines over the recent deportation row, the Philippine government has decided to send a special envoy to Taipei later this month to explain the reasons behind its handling of the 14 Taiwanese fraud suspects. And preliminary discussion over the diplomatic visit is already underway.

The chair of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, Amadeo Perez Jr., has arrived at Taoyuan International Airport for discussions with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Timothy Yang regarding the impending visit by a diplomat sent by the Philippines.

The Philippines' recent move to extradite 14 Taiwanese fugitives to Mainland China has sparked controversy and tension and Perez says he intends to patch up the relations between Taiwan and the Philippines.

Perez says he hopes that the recent event will not spoil the relations between the two counties, which has been amicable up to this point.

The extradition happened well over a month ago and Taiwan is reacting by implementing harsher restrictions on Filippino labors.

Perez has expressed his desire to send the 14 Taiwanese fugitives back to Taiwan, but says that this is an issue the requires discussion between Taiwan and Mainland China.

Taiwan is waiting to see whether the Philippines will issue a formal apology and will hold further discussions regarding cooperation over escaped convicts.
