There's an old saying that drinking pear juice or eating the fruit can help stop the coughs. Is it really true? Or is it simply a myth? Doctors say, that both pear juice and turnip juice actually do not have the ability to clear the throat, let alone improve its condition. In fact, they may even make the situation worse, because they are considered as cold foods by the traditional Chinese medicine.

With a spoon, scoop out the pear pit and a little pear meat and fill the pear with tendrilleaf fritillary bulb powder.

Boil the pear with some water till the pear is tender, and serve it warm with honey.

This is said to be the one of the traditional cough and phlegm remedies, which will help alleviate the symptoms.

However, for those who catch a flu, the remedy may actually make the situation worse.

It is because pears, as well as tangerines and radish, are all cold foods, and people with cold physical constitution are advised to avoid them.

People who have a cold or are recovering from coughing are not suggested to eat cold foods.

Doctors suggest people to drink hot ginger water, hot soup stewed with green onions.

If they want to have some fruits, orange, apple and green vegetables are all good choices.
