First in politics,

DPP chairperson Tsai Ing-wen has invited other party heavyweights, including former premier Su Tseng-chang and former vice-president Annette Lu, to a meeting on Sunday for discussions about the upcoming presidential primaries, hoping to avoid further frictions among the party's main contenders. And Lu, while responding positively to the invitation, said she would like to have a private exchange of views with Tsai alone before Sunday's meeting.

DPP heavyweights have traveled to the southern Taiwan to canvass support for the legislative by-elections in Tainan and Kaohsiung.

However, once the by-elections are over this Saturday, DPP is about to prepare for its primary election.

Chairperson Tsai Ing-wen is planning to invite several possible contenders to have a meeting with DPP important politicians to decide who would be better suited to represent the party in the 2012 presidential election.

The meeting is scheduled to be held on March 6th, since DPP hopes to unite the party as early as possible, and be better prepared for the coming presidential election.

Former premier Su Tseng-chang has expressed his approval over the meeting. However, Annette Lu was not satisfied with the arrangement, which may suggests that she is not willing to have negotiations with party politicians.

The meeting this Sunday will mark the first round of major discussions over choosing a DPP candidate, and the party still has to settle the delicate issue, when Lu shows no signs of slowing down her election campaign.
