Addressing at the party's central standing committee in Tainan on Wednesday, DPP chairperson Tsai Ing-wen called for the party's full efforts to support DPP candidates to win the two seats in Tainan City and Kaohsiung City. However, with only few days left before the by-election day, it is expected that the voter turnout may be low.

Voters in Tainan and Kaohsiung will be electing two new legislators this Saturday, and the DPP moved its Central Standing Committee to the south in the hopes of shoring up support.

The DPP sees the elections as an open path to the Presidential Office, and DPP Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen recently expressed full confidence that the party would win both seats.

Tainan City Mayor William Lai and the party's Tainan City councilors took part in the CSC meeting, but have received little response from the public.

The KMT's Tainan City candidate, Chen Shu-hui, has been actively canvassing the streets and sharing her platform with voters. Chen wants to integrate and develop the city's cultural, tourism, medical, and technology industries and refine Tainan's agricultural industry.

When asked about her campaign strategy, Chen said that she wanted to run a positive campaign devoid of mudslinging.

With less than 48 hours remaining, the DPP is desperate to hold onto the two seats and the KMT is advocating change.
