DPP chairperson Tsai Ing-wen invited fellow party heavyweights to a closed-door meeting on Sunday in order to build consensus prior to the presidential primaries. Some participants said afterwards that the two-hour event was held in an amicable atmosphere, with former premier Su Tseng-chang calling it a "good start" for the party's internal communication. Former vice-president Annette Lu, accepted an interview in a television station early in the morning, though she was not yet fully recovered from a cold. The only DPP politician so far to have declared her intention to run for president next year, Lu, whose attendance was initially uncertain, eventually showed up at the meeting, after DPP secretary-general Su Jia-chyuan invited her again. According to Lu and former premier Su Tseng-chang, the meeting was held in a nice atmosphere. The DPP has shown harmony and unity through this meeting, however, it did not focus on the primary election of the 2012 bid. DPP secretary-general Su Jia-chyuan said that party politicians didn't talk about who should represent the party for the 2012 presidency. Still, they all agreed that the party should offer the platform to allows party politicians to negotiate and exchange ideas. The only conclusion reached during the meeting was that they agreed with KMT's idea to combine the presidential and legislative elections, but the proposal must be well planned. Su emphasized that the combined election will be a major issue for Taiwan's election procedure, and should not be conducted simply for a party's own political gains. The DPP will enhance its negotiation with the KMT on this matter, including making constitutional changes to make the proposal feasible. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
