While electric rice cookers have been a kitchen staple here in Taiwan for decades, their full potential in food preparation is actually seldom tapped. In our next story, a resourceful homemaker is going to show us how much more this household appliance can do beyond cooking rice.

With rice cookers, homemakers don't even have to switch on the gas in order to cook a delicious meal.

Let's take a look at some of the dishes we can make using rice cookers.

To make a steamed Chinese broccoli dish, first cut the greens into manageable segments and wash the pieces.

Next pour in a some garlic flavoring into the dish and put the whole dish into the rice cooker and wait for three minutes.

You don't need any cooking skills and you don't oil or water.

To add a little bit of zest, you can add in some olive oil.

The next dish will require a little bit of oil.

Take a plate of chopped onion and basil leaves and place it into the rice cooker, ensuring that everything is smoothened flat.

Again, wait three minutes and the mouth-watering aroma of the basil leaves will start to emanate from the pot.

Next we'll try to tackle a main course dish - the terriyaki pork chops.

After marinating pork in terriyaki sauce, lay out each piece on a dish in the pot.

Allow the pork to steam in the oven.

When it's ready you'll discover a scrumptious entree waiting for you.

The rice cooker is not only a great way to cook delicious meals, it's also a time and money saver.
