A documentary is currently in the making, to depict the time when former President Chiang Kai-shek transported the gold from Shanghai to Taiwan in 1949. And until this day, scholars continue to debate whether or not the gold saved the island's economy during the nation's worst period. On December first of 1948, tons of gold were shipped away from the Central Bank of Shanghai to Taiwan. In the next six months, former president Chiang Kai-shek had quietly transported 4.5 million taels of gold to Taiwan, which is the equivalent of 325 billion NTD now. The secret mission was only known to those close to the former leader. Even those who were on the ship had no idea that they were traveling with huge stash of gold. But thinking about the past, they did sense something abnormal. The episode of the history was revealed and made into a documentary film. According to historians, Chiang Kai-shek made a tough decision facing the looming of the communists, it was a critical move to keep the KMT regime through the hard times and maintain Taiwan's financial order. A lot of 3-D animation is used in the movie to recreate the history, in the hope to attract more young viewers. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
