Premier Wu Den-yih has made a visit to the third nuclear power plant in Pingtung, with a drill being conducted to demonstrate that we are capable in managing emergency situations. Wu emphasizes that he is satisfied with the training procedure, and is calling on Taipower to hold thorough inspections every ten years along with frequent drills.

Premier Wu Den-yih was on hand for an earthquake and tsunami drill at the third nuclear power plant in Pingtung on Sunday.

During the drill, plant personnel dealt with an electrical outage that cut off the nuclear reactors' cooling systems.

At the conclusion of the drill, Wu expressed confidence in the plant's response measures. In the wake of Fukushima's nuclear crisis, the nation is on high alert.

Wu said that Taiwan must learn from what happened in Fukushima, and said that a comprehensive inspection of the island's nuclear power plants must be conducted at least once every ten years.

Wu also called on Taipower to hold additional drills as well as improving the plant's quake resistance if feasible.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Taiwan's fourth nuclear power plant sits on top of an active fault and is considered a "hazardous" plant.
