A kindergarten bus in Kaohsiung was reported to be overloaded earlier this week, which prompted the local authorities to conduct surprise inspections on kindergarten vehicles in the city. Although no safety violation has been found so far, the inspectors said they will continue to be on the watch.

The engine on this vehicle picking up children for kindergarten is running and the rear door is open with a warning alert going off which meets safety requirements according to Kaohsiung City Government Consumer Ombudsman Office and the Kaohsiung City Motor Vehicles Office.

They launched a surprise inspection today on kindergartens in Kaohsiung, to investigate complaints and other irregularities.

The Consumer Ombudsman Office said the focus of the check included the driver and staff, fire extinguishers, vehicle identification,

and any alteration to vehicle seats and automobile liability insurance.

However, the inspection of two kindergartens found both to be in compliance.

Vehicles older than 10 years cannot be used for transporting kindergarten children, and baby seats need to be in a certain position and cannot block the aisle with an aisle required. Kaohsiung currently has 566 special vehicles for children as parents and the city government continue to pay lots of attention to safety checks for these vehicles.
