In raising awareness for the growing number of people with autism in Taiwan, the Minister of the Interior Jiang Yi-huah is strongly promoting the care for these individuals on the World Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd. According to the latest stats, there are more than 10,000 people suffering from this disorder, but the actual number may be a lot higher than we think.

To raise the awareness of Autism, some local groups urge families with Autism members to join the campaign on World Autism Awareness Day.

Those who are affected by Autism need to open up to the society and educate the public about the illness.

So they won't be treated as weirdos.

Minister of the Interior Chiang Yi-hua has strong feelings as his own son has mild autism, saying that the country has slightly over 10,000 people with autism.

But he believes the number is far below the actual count.

People with autism have trouble interacting with others and may be mistaken as cold, distant, arrogant or aloof.

Mrs. Hsu, who's been through the hardship of raising a son with autism, says that these children truly need acceptance from the society.

Professional therapists suggest that parents to not shut themselves and kids away from the society.

If autism kids get in touch with the society and receive proper training and early treatment, it is possible for them to improve their abilities to interact with others, this could even help them to adapt to their workplace and the society.
