Plum harvest season usually runs from late March to April each year. However, this year's cold weather has delayed its growth, resulting in the sharp decline of the overall volume of the produce, with the fruit smaller than the past few years.

The workers are busy plucking ripe plums to make crisp plums. But the plums are smaller when compared to years past.

This year's harvest is also smaller compared to past ones. The workers are disappointed, and say this year's harvest volume is very poor.

Although the plums are still as crisp as ever, their size has diminished tremendously.

The farmer explains the weather has been very cold from last year to this year. Although the flowers blossomed, this year's harvest is about 30% less than historical past.

The farmer said, they still need to harvest the tree even if the fruit is small.

Because after Tomb Sweeping Day, the fruit will be too ripe to make into crisp plums, which will be a bigger financial loss.

Wholesale prices are only about NT$30 this year, or NT$10 less than last year, because of the small size.

But Hsinyi Township's Agricultural Coop is still buying them at NT$45 per KG to help stabilize the market and help farmers lessen their losses.
