According to the nuclear energy officials, radioactive fallout may hit Taiwan on Wednesday at the earliest. While the Central Weather Bureau is closely monitoring the wind direction, the Atomic Energy Council is reassuring the public that even if the radioactive dust reaches Taiwan, the amount is too small to be harmful to human health.

However, researchers from the Academia Sinica are holding a different opinion, indicating that the situation may be more serious than the current estimation.

Fukushima disaster, Taiwanese people have been worried about radioactive dust.

The Central Weather Bureau had forecasted, that Fukushima fallout is likely to head toward the Hengchun Peninsula on Wednesday, though according to latest data, the fallout path could be diverted by the Bashi Channel between the Hengchun Peninsula and the Philippines, but they do not rule out the possibility of a direct assault on Taiwan.

In addition to a possible change in course, the dilution of radioactive fallout has two different versions.

The Academia Sinica's Research Center for Environmental Change says that within the 20 km perimeter of the plant, the contamination becomes diluted by the atmosphere,

with this research center saying that it should be lowered to 1/100 which is not the same as the Atomic Energy Council's 1/1,000,000.

Academia Sinica's analysis says that Fukushima radioactive dust will be blown as early as noon on Wednesday in Taiwan.

And that the radiation dose can be far greater than that of the original assessment of the hourly 0.0638 microsieverts per hour.

The eastern half of the island and the north and south ends will see more pollution.

Academia Sinica says its po,ssible to experience 1 to 10 microsieverts per hour, in excess of the 0.2 microsieverts requiring a health warning.
