Displeased with the bipartisanship of Taiwanese politics, former DPP chairman Shih Ming-teh has started a 100,000-signature petition online, calling for a public discussion on the third pair of candidates in the upcoming presidential race.

Shih Ming-teh, who had led tens of thousands of protesters onto Taipei City streets against then-president Chen Shui-bian, held a press conference yesterday with the political analyst Yang Xian-hung, scholar Yao Li-ming, former army commander Hu Zhen-pu, musician Luo Da-you and artist Hsu po-yun.

They criticized that the conflict between pan-blue and pan-green groups has severely undermined the country's harmony and development.

Shih also criticized the aspiring contenders of the 2012 presidential elections for not having the ability to reflect, nor the ability to lead to country to a better future.

Dressed in white, as a gesture of hoping that Taiwan can go beyond either green or blue political parties,

Shih and his supporters launched the "My heart is not dead" signature petition on line, hoping to gather a 100,000 signatures to decide if the country needs another pair of presidential candidates.

Shih's action also caused many people to wonder if he will join the presidential race.

In response, Shih said he had no intention to do so, but didn't really rule out the possibility.

Shih only said that they will not decide whether or not or who to join the presidential race before they gather 100,000 signatures.
