Gold is not the only precious metal whose price has skyrocketed recently. The price of silver has also soared by 30% since the start of this year, reaching above 40 US dollars per ounce earlier this week, a record high in 31 years.

In a fine weather like today's, Mr. Chang does not go out with his family but chooses to go to the stamp club to buy silver coins with paper notes he had been collecting for years.

Mr. Chang has been collecting coins for 70 years. He said that the price of silver has hit the record high, which has soared by 30% since the start of this year, while gold price has increased by around 3% so far.

Silver looks ready to challenge the all time high since 1980.

According to Mr. Chang, the silver coin cost only several hundred dollars few years ago, but it costs 6000 NT dollars now.

Also, the price of the coin set of the year of tiger and year of rabbit, which used to be around 1000 NT dollars, has increased to over 2000 NT dollars.

Even so, the demand of silver coins is still big.

Stamp club owner said that the soaring silver price has also attracted many mainland tourists to Taiwan to buy silver coins.

The owner also said that the price of silver coins is even likely to be doubled in the near future.
