An 8-year-old elementary student has claimed the big

With curly hair and a shy smile, 8-year-old Nicklas Yeh, who currently studies at the Kaohsiung American School, is the youngest winner in the Nuremburg Invention Fair in Germany and also the youngest in the Taiwanese delegation in the fair.

Inspired by the numerous drowning accidents each year, Yeh invented the life saving swimming trunks, which won him the Silver Medal winner at the fair.

The swimming trunks would inflate in case of an emergency with the pull of a string.

After experimenting for several months, the idea finally won notable recognition.

According to his instructor Hsieh Wen-chian, children's creativity is unlimited and teachers are just there to offer assistance.

Currently, the swimming trunks have been granted the patent but the model now is only suitable for kids who are about 30 to 40 kilograms.

The young inventor is making an effort to create one that works for adults as well.
