Forget about the Mayan doomsday theory of 2012, for if you believe "Teacher Wang," a self-proclaimed prophet from central Taiwan, an apocalyptic disaster is about to hit the island in less than a week's time, cutting it into two parts and killing more than one million people. Wang's prophecy has already set off a rush to build hundreds of shelters from shipping containers at his chosen site in Puli of Nantou County. But the Central Weather Bureau has already debunked Wang's claims, and is planning to impose a one-million-NT-dollar fine on him for violation of the Meteorological Act. The construction site of the container houses are still underway, however, supervising staffs, who are faithfuls of Wang, seemed to disappear. Wang is going to be fined by the Central Weather Bureau for violating Meteorological Law. Those who believed Wang are starting to turn low key and begin to doubt what he said. Many local residents are telling those faithfuls to wake up and smell the coffee; stop scaring themselves and that life must go on. Taking at look at some of the electrical appliances being moved into the container houses, one would question how those people never thought about the power supply issue after a big quake before they started to scare themselves of what Wang said. On the other hand, the Nantou Puli district administration office has decided to negotiate with the owners of the container houses to house people who might be affected during typhoon season each year. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
