As the water crisis escalates in central and southern Taiwan, a group of KMT city councilors in Taichung held a joint press conference on Thursday, calling for the construction of a desalination plant in Taichung, which will take at least more than one year to build. And even though it doesn't help to solve the immediate problem of water shortage, the councilors said it's a project that cannot afford to be further delayed. Taichung City is facing the biggest drought in ten years, if it doesn't rain anytime soon. KMT Taichung city councilors voiced their concern asking the central government to quickly build a seawater desalination water plant along the coastal area of Taichung. The councilors say Taichung requires 120 tons of water for domestic use. The Central Taiwan Science Park easily consumes over 10, 000 tons of water. This water shortage problem has severely impacted the local householes and industries. Apparently, building the sea water desalination plant is the next best choice after having water reservoirs. The councilmen also urged the government to quickly clean up water reservoirs. The Penghu's Water Desalination Plant can provide 4,000 tons of water each day and it plans to raise the daily supply to 10,000 tons in this year. While the effort ot desalination came a bit too late, the city councilors asked the government to wait no more in solving the drought problem. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
