Teacher Wang is not the only one that has made an insubstantial prediction. The Central Weather Bureau's Seismic Center gets at least three calls per day with people proclaiming their earthquake forecasts.

So far, these so-called prophets have not been able to prove their extraordinary skills by nailing down the time or magnitude of a quake.

Mr. Wang predicted that Taiwan would be hit by a devastating, magnitude 14 earthquake on May 11 at 10:42 in the morning, but it didn't happen as he guessed.

From the seismic monitoring system of the Central Weather Bureau, the seismic activities in Taiwan of the past couple days are normal.

The only felt earthquake was the magnitude 4.2 earthquake that took place in Jiayi on May 8th.

The Central Weather Bureau says that on the average, it receives three calls each day, asking the bureau to witness or document their predictions.

In fact, these callers want to make their own "super power" known but don't want to be punished by the Weather Law.

Therefore, they always call the bureau whenever they feel something's going on.

But so far, none of the callers was proven to be right.

According to the earthquake authority, the occurrence of earthquake would have to depend on scientific numbers and to raise its capability of earthquake and tsunami warning, the Central Weather Bureau has installed undersea cables at the outer sea of Yilan.

The project is estimated to complete in June and inaugurate in October.

Upon its completion, the detectable number of earthquake would reach 30,000, a lot more than the current 18,000.
