DPP presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen and Central Bank Governor Perng Fai-nan's late-night meeting has sparked speculation about a joint ticket for next year's presidential election.
Both called it a get-together between old acquaintances and asked the media to refrain from making assumptions.
Perng also repeated a remark he told the legislature in March, that his current post would be his last public position.
Central Bank of Taiwan president Perng Fai-nan recently paid a visit to DPP presidential contender, Tsai Ing-wen.
As news spread of the meeting, immediate public speculation ignited over whether Tsai has found her running mate.
After Tsai confirmed her plans to compete in the 2012 presidential election, many are now wondering who would be Tsai's running mate.
However, Perng has told the media that he was only meeting with Tsai for a casual talk over their days as colleagues and the national and international economic situation.
Tsai has made similar statements and both are urging the public to stop speculating on who her running mate will be.
Perng, who rose out of a background in finance, has the public image of being an expert in finance and is sought after by both the blue and green camps.
However, Perng himself has declared that being the president of the Central Bank will be his last public job.
Besides Perng, president of Landis Hotel, Yan Chang-shou, has also once been named as a running mate, but has already been rejected by the party.
Tsai said that the DPP presidential campaign will not start until summer.
