Four years later, he became Taiwan's top-ranked boxer in his weight class of mixed martial arts. That year, he even defeated an Italian top boxer to take home the first prize at an international tournament in Beijing.

When he is not wearing the gloves, Fan pursues a PhD degree in medical engineering at the National Taipei University of Technology. And he seems to be just as competitive in school as he is in the arena, being the number one student of his class.

Fan said he owes much of his success to his girlfriend, who is also his training partner.
