The Nantou Jiji railway line in central Taiwan has resumed its operation over the weekend after being halted for 15 months, with both President Ma Ying-jeou and Premier Wu Den-yih attending the opening ceremony. In addition, the Taiwan Railway Administration has arranged a ride for the guests, taking them from Jiji to Chencheng on the old stream train. As the old train slowly approaches Jiji Station, President Ma Ying-jeou puts on a stationmaster's cap and pronounces the opening of the station and the railway. President Ma and Premier Wu Den-yih took a ride on the line while enjoying the area's beautiful scenery. Even though there's no air conditioning in the old steam train, President Ma said that he enjoyed the trip. A lot of railway fans gathered at Chencheng station to welcome the old train. Taiwan Railway Administration used the old CK101 and CK124 steam trains to give passengers a ride on the Jiji line, which resumed operations over the weekend after 15 months of repairs and construction. "Besides enhancing the road base, we also improved the safety of the structure as well as widening the tunnel. And more trains can enter Jiji line in the future." The ceremony attracted a lot of railway fans and tourists, and the shops near the stations were full of customers. They said that the local tourism was weak when the train was halted, and they can finally resume their business as well. President Ma also expressed his hopes that the line can connect the railway of the Sun Moon Lake line to bring more tourists to Nantou area. With the resumption of service, Taiwan Railway estimates that the line will bring around 500,000 passengers per year. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
