US POVERTY RATE AT ITS HIGHEST

According to the new census released, the nation's poverty rate has hit the 15.1 percent mark in 2010, the highest it has ever been since 1993.

The Census Bureau said that around 46.2 million individuals in America struggled to make ends meet in 2009, in which the number of people living in poverty has gone up from 14.3 percent in 2009, to 15.1 percent in 2010.

The latest figures also show that 25.8 percent of black people and 25.3 percent of Hispanic people were living in poverty.

The average annual US household income fell 2.3 percent in 2010. But after adjusting for inflation, middle-income families make about 11 percent more in 2010 compared to 1980, while the wealthiest 5 percent in America have been taking 42 percent more money home.
