With a cry of "It's tapped!" Munich's mayor opens the 178th Oktoberfest. It's the annual feast of beer, sausage and revelry. Tens of thousands of visitors from around the world descend on the German city. And Bavaria's state premier Horst Seehofer says Oktoberfest is all about enjoying the entire experience.

Bavarian State Minister, Horst Seehofer: "It's being with all the people, it's the atmosphere, the food, the beer, the brass bands and from now until October 3rd, everything takes second place!" And even though the beer price has risen by three and a half percent, it doesn't perturb Oktoberfest faithful, who love the carnival atmosphere.

Oktoberfest visitor, Helmut Schoebl: "The price of the beer is fine with me because so much effort goes into everything. Of course it would be nice for the consumer if it was a bit cheaper, but the effort of it all is really something!"

Oktoberfest visitor, Petra Gerlacher: "The Oktoberfest feeling is all about the procession. It's great for the children to see because we are who we are. It just is the way it is." Organisers say they expect up to six million people during the 17-day event which boasts 95 different beer stands in 14 large tents with a total capacity of 105,000 seats. On the count of three, visitors are invited to drink. And drink they will, to the tune of around seven million litres of beer.
