The fifth Matzu cultural festival in Taitung City is going on right now at the Tienhou Temple, which has more than 100 years of history. In showing respect for the gods, people are eating vegetables for three days consecutively, until Saturday. Let's take you to see this meat free event, that's supported by all the local businesses.

The Tienhou Temple of Taitung City has held the Taoist jiao rite every 12 years since 1962. This year has been its fifth time hosting the religious event.

During each rite, the temple promotes a vegetarian diet for good luck.

This time makes no exception, where the whole Taitung City would begin a 3-day vegetarian diet starting from November 11th.

In an effort to cooperate with the religious event, restaurants offering regular menu stop business for three days while no meat is supplied at the major traditional market during the same time.

To join the effort of the celebration and promote a vegetarian diet, a local cafeteria even offers free vegetarian lunch and dinner for three days.
