The total ticket sale of "Breaking Dawn Part 1" has passed 200 million US dollars on Saturday, reaching 489.3 million US dollars worldwide. Following behind at No. 2 was "The Muppets," which opened at an estimated 42 million US dollars. In comparison, the first Happy Feet improved 22 percent to 50.6 million US dollars over Thanksgiving weekend in 2006. "Arthur Christmas" opened in fourth place with an estimated 17 million US dollars. While this isn't a very impressive beginning, the upcoming Christmas holiday is set to attract more moviegoers throughout December. Voiced by James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, and Bill Nighy, the 3D animation revolves around the family of Santa Claus and his son Aurtur, who is on an urgent mission to deliver all the presents to children around the globe before Christmas morning. "Arthur Christmas" has received positive reception from both critics and moviegoers, who gave the film an "A-" CinemaScore. No. 5 went the fantasy adventure "Hugo," which earned an estimated 15.4 million US dollars during its first weekend. Directed by Shutter Island director, Martin Scorsese, and starred by Jude Law, the Hit-Girl star Chloe Moretz, and the Borat star, Sacha Baron Cohen, the film tells the story about an orphaned boy, who sets out on an adventure to find out the message left by his father in a broken automaton. Despite a slow start, the film aiming at families is likely to bring in more ticket sales next month, as Paramount is planning to expand it into more theaters soon.
