A slice of the near future was shown on Monday at the Connected House in Barcelona, where AT&T showcased its latest intelligent wireless connections.

Easy day-to-day tasks like opening window blinds, the door, or turning the fireplace on can become automatic just by pre-setting technological devices strategically installed at home.

"The devices here can be enabled to turn on when I arrive home," "For example, the fireplace can be controlled remotely,"Glenn Lurry, President of Emerging Services at AT&T, said the goal with new wireless innovations was to make people feel at home without having to be there.

"The ability to see inside your home with cameras. The ability to see if your doors are locked or not. The ability to see, let's say, if you have an irrigation system and it breaks we can put a sensor on it and allow you to fix that from your phone, with a turn off valve. The concept is endless in your life."

The device can also allow its users to make checks on the safety of elderly relatives whilst at work or see if your child is at home from school.Though AT&T does not want to specify how much it will cost to update a house with the new mobile wireless system, Lurry said the concept was the way forward.

"I think the connected house is the future. I mean, what you seeing here in this home is things that we have today and things that we have tomorrow. The fun part about this house, this year, is that most of this house is today. "

Over the next four years, the mobile industry will invest 793 billion US dollars in capital and contribute 2.7 trillion US dollars to public funding across the globe.
