Many schools around Taiwan are facing the pressure to rename themselves as the scheduled date of nationwide county-city mergers is drawing near. Coordination has been underway between schools sharing the same name and the local governments. And one elementary school in Taichung City has set an example by being the first to rename itself before the mergers.

In Guang-cheng elementary school of Taichung City, students are playing balls and waiting for the summer camp to start.

But in August, the school will no longer be called "Guang-Cheng" elementary school, instead it will be called "Da-keng" elementary school.

Given the upcoming merge and upgrade of Taichung County and City, the 22 schools that share the same name with others have begun coordination work.

For example, the Guan-cheng elementary school in Da-keng area communicated with local residents and organized a vote in the school.

Finally, a consensus was reached and the school becomes the first school to have its named changed before the merge and upgrade of county and city.

Schools of similar problems are now discussing solutions.

According to the Department of Education of Taichung City, name changing shoud not be taken lightly and hurriedly. If that cannot happen before the upgrade of the county and city, the administrative district of the school's location will be added in the front for distinction.
