Under growing financial pressure, many private universities in Taiwan have developed consumer products to generate more income, and some turned out to be surprise hits.

Schools like Tung Hai and Hung Kuang each boast of businesses that generate millions of extra revenue per year, making substantial contribution to the campus.

Student Hsueh pedals for more than 10 minutes every day to get his favorite iced treat.

Tung Hai University Experimental Farm earns more than 5 million NT per year from its dairy products, which include milk and ice cream.

Hungkuang University's line of cosmetic products was developed by the school's Department of Applied Cosmetology, and is selling extremely well at the dermatology clinics of major hospitals around the island.

The products have earned more than 10 million NT for the university in the past three years.

Providence University, meanwhile, earns more than 100,000 NT per month on its line of designer bags, mugs, and souvenirs.

With quality guaranteed, the products are helping the university survive difficult times.
