To another related story, Daniao villagers of Taitung County are requesting to permanently stay in their temporary homes in the housing project, which was built as part of the Typhoon Morakot relief. With their shleters completely destroyed during the August 8th flood last year, the resident are now hoping for some stability. More than 70 volunteers with World Vision Taiwan plant 200 tree seeds around the mid-term housing project of Daniao village of Dawu township, in the attempt to bring a piece of calm to disaster victims through greenification. During typhoon Morakot last year, a serious landslide happened on the mountain behind the village, which could have been buried. 14 houses were buried by debris. Fortunately, no one was hurt. But the residents had to move to the mid-term housing. Still, they might have to move again because the housing project is close to the river and the land actually belongs to the Taiwan Railway Administration. Taking the opportunity of planting greens, they hope to let the world know that they are safe and don't want to move again. During the past year, the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau has built a retaining wall and a flood way behind the village, as a response to possible risks of landslide. The move makes villagers feel safe. But the disaster-affected residents from 14 families also wish to stay in the village, hoping the government can come up with solutions. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
