To promote healthy diets, the Taipei City Department of Health asked four major fast food franchises to make nutritional information available online, on menus as well as on food containers. The policy, which was implemented two months ago, has been well-received.

Children and adults alike often dine on hamburgers, French fries, and fried chicken when they are short on time.

However, few are aware just how many calories they are consuming.

In order to promote healthy eating, the Taipei City Department asked four of Taiwan's largest fast food franchises to begin publishing nutritional information online and on menus and food containers.

The policy has been received well since it was implemented two months ago, and consumers have been impressed by the cooperation of fast food franchises in making the information available.

As obesity is on the rise among all age groups in Taiwan and deep-fried foods have been directly linked to various types of cardiovascular disease,

the Department of Health is urging the public to eat more fruits and vegetables and maintain a balanced diet.
