Most people worship spirits during the Ghost Festival, but in Di Zhang Temple in Lukang, some are doing more than just that. Here on CTS, let's take a look at why they are bringing offerings to animals and insects during this supposedly traditional ritual.

Usually it's common to see snacks, fruits, cookies and instant noodles as sacrifices for annual Pudu rituals.

But some of the sacrifices are less common, such as water, sugar and even soil.

The temple administrators joke they've never seen anything like this.

In fact, the soil is for earthworms.

There's even something for Malayan pangolin.

A young girl suffered from serious skin problem.

And her mother offered sacrifices to the animal for three years and the skin problem is brought under control.

According to the temple administrators, the annual Pudu ritual is to pray for safety and peace.

No matter who your sacrifices are for, as long as you're genuine in your worshipping, that's what makes the ritual meaningful and satisfying on a personal level.
