The cases of dengue fever are hitting a record high this month, with 34 new occurrences being reported in the south of Taiwan just this week alone. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the humid environment caused by the recent typhoons are creating a breeding ground for the mosquitoes, so people should be extra cautious regarding the spread of dengue fever and other related diseases. The dengue fever epidemic is proving to be a menace as just last week, another 34 indigenous cases wore found with the worst affected areas being southern Taiwan with 23 cases reported in Kaohsiung City's Gushan District and Sanmin District experiencing another 7 cases. Tainan's Guanmiao Township reported four cases, leading the dengue fever mosquito index to reach a level 3 warning as there is potential for the epidemic to spread. In addition to domestic cases, the numbers of foreign cases of dengue fever have increased due to immigration as 48 imported cases were reported in August alone. This was a record monthly high. With typhoons bringing heavy rain, the CDC called upon people to strengthen their attention to the environment and health. Apart from dengue fever, influenza should not be overlooked as H3N2 influenza took the life of an 88-year-old living in the south. He had a chronic history of disease, eventually passing away on August 25th. Also last week, the CDC noted a 4-year-old boy died of influenza A, which is now awaiting further confirmation could indicate H1N1 infection as a cause of death, bringing a total of 49 deaths due to domestic influenza. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
