Two new department stores are both opening this week in Taipei, with grand ceremonies and special promotions, attracting huge crowds of customers.

From TV shopping channels to department store, MOMO department stores opened on Wednesday in the Nanking business district across from Taipei Arena, which attracted many people.

Customers were able to see the merchandise they were interested in on Momo TV shopping channel in person with some even skipping work to shop.

Also in the eastern Taipei district, right in the Taipei city Hall bus transit terminal is another new department store,

the Uni President Hankyu Department stores, which opened on Thursday and offers many Japanese brand and styled merchandises.

The advantage of Hankyu Dept store is the location for it is right above the MRT station, next to bus terminal and local bus stops.

Taipei city is the battlefield for department stores in Taiwan, it is important for each one of them to have a special feature to survive.

Some would focus on special group of customers while some introduced brands that are new to Taiwan.

Many department stores in HsinYi areas understand the theory and has been focusing on their target market for years.

However, scholars believe that the department store is a location featuring varieties of items, which is hard to target a certain group of shoppers, thus, convenient transportation would be the key.

Whether geographic location or discounts, the war between department stores means more choices for consumers in Taipei city.
