An exhibition of the works by Taiwan's foremost printmaking artist, Liao Shiou-ping, recently opened in Taipei, which showcases the master's unique style of blending western techniques with eastern sensibilities.

On the canvas, daily necessities such as spoons and forks become art.

Using a palate of red, black, and gold, the artist creates an artistic atmosphere of double prosperity and a vivacious undertone.

In front of a formidable temple in a painting stand miniscule human subjects to denote people's religious faiths.

All of these artistic pieces containing Eastern motifs were based off of renowned artist Liao Shiou-Pings personal experiences.

Because Liao, who is deemed the Taiwan Patriarch of Modern Art, grew up near Longshan Temple in the Wanhua District, traditional values and temples have become a source of inspiration for his paintings.

On visits to Japan, Paris, and New York, Liao expanded his arsenal of artistic techniques.

And after being denominated in the Eastern Culture, Liao emerged with his own artistic style and fostered a new wave of artists.

Liaos 40 years of artwork show his exploration and creativity in the depths of art, extending beyond national barriers and integrating Taiwan elements.

Liao not only established his own artistic style, hes delivered Taiwans unique culture to the audience through art.
