Doctors are advising people to drink plenty of H2O to reduce the chance of getting kidney stones. Instead of grabbing soft drinks or caffeinated beverages, which can contribute to the buildup of calcium oxalate, one should consume large amount of water a day, to help flush out the substances that can lead to the formation of the stones.

During the summer, many people would choose to drink sports drink instead of water to replenish their fluid.

However, those drinks are high in oxalic acid content, which should not be taken in place of water.

Doctors point out that, soft drinks contains oxalic acid, which could increase the amount of the acid and calcium level in urine should no water be consumed, leading to kidney stone.

Doctors suggest 1,500 c.c. of water per day for the average adult.

As to kidney stones, doctors said the key is the amount of urine per day, which should also be about 1,500 c.c., and a few times during the day, healthy adult should have clear, colorless urine, otherwise, if the urine is dark in color, foul smelling and bubbles form in the toilet, it could be warning signs and a visit to the hospital is recommended.
