According to the Ministry of Interior, the number of abandoned children in Taiwan since 2005 has exceeded 2,400. And the Child Welfare League Foundation also discovered that only 43% of them have been able to find adoptive parents within one year.

These kids are supposed to be having fun and living out a carefree childhood.

Instead, 4-year-old Cheng cheng and 2-year-old Kai kai are two brothers who have no place to call home.

When their parents separated, the two boys were put up for adoption, and Mrs. Lai of the Child Welfare League Foundation found a temporary foster home for them.

Because the two boys were neglected by their natural parents, their linguistic development has been slow.

Mrs. Lai is unwilling to give up on the brothers and takes the two to therapy classes every week.

According to the Child Welfare League Foundation, even though the Taiwan economy is seeing an improvement, children are abandoned on an average of 1.3 per day.

Some were left by the roadside and some became drifters at tender ages.

The Foundation has also discovered that in one year, only 43% of the kids are able to find adoptive parents.

Children who are older, have illnesses or come from drug-addicted parents have an even more difficult time finding a home.
