In southeastern coast, Typhoon Megi's has whipped up huge waves, interrupting the ferry service between Taitung, Green Island and Lan-yu. The cancellation has left hundreds unable to return home. Also, landslides caused by the heavy rainfall injured two tourists in the Zhi-ben area. Fortunately, the two suffered from minor wounds. Two-story waves beat continually beat the Taitung County's Shangwu Harbor embankment, causing these waves to go straight up towards the lighthouse. Fishermen say that they have not seen such waves in five or six years. It is fortunate that Typhoon Megi will not affect Taiwan directly. Still, sea conditions are violent as ships traveling from Taitung to Green Island and Orchid Island have had to be suspended. An estimated 800 tourists are stranded there. Because of suspended service, one individual had to be evacuated by a helicopter by the National Airborne Service Corps to get medical treatment in Taitung. Typhoon Megi had strong outer wind circulation, affecting the eastern region with heavy rain over the next few days. Also, loose mountain debris led to a landslide on Longquan Road in Taitung County Chihpen hot spring area. The slope collapsed with falling rock hitting two people who suffered slight injury. Fortunately, this landslide only affected a nearby sidewalk as it did not affect vehicle traffic to the Chihpen hot spring. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
