When hosting a banquet Tuesday night for newly appointed judicial yuan president Lai Hao-ming, President Ma Ying-jeou gave a public speech.

He talked about how the public feels for the first trial verdict of the bribery case against former President Chen and the White Rose campaign launched earlier by local groups.

President Ma says that the justice system is getting more independent as the country becomes more democratic.

It is a good sign.

But the president also says that the judicial system cannot isolate itself from the society and stays away from people's expectations of the justice system.

Besides promoting judicial reform and setting up systems, the president says it is also important to use the right person.

Therefore, he nominated Huang Shi-min to be the prosecutor-in-chief early this year.

In addition to Huang, President Ma also has strong confidence that Minister of Justice Tseng Yong-fu who took office in March, Judicial Yuan President Lai Min-hao and vice president Su Yong-chin would do a great job in carrying out judicial reform.
