National Taiwan University has recently called a press conference to express the need to build a new building for the college of liberal arts which faced a problem of insufficient space. However, a group of professors who are against the plan said the new building will destroy the campus landscape and that the school officials should find a different site. National Taiwan University is planning to build a new home for the university's College of Liberal Arts on this site, and construction on the nine-story structure is slated to begin next year. However, many professors and students say that building would destroy the school's original visage, and have started a petition calling on the school to find an alternate site. NTU President Lee Si-chen previously said that the decision rests in the hands of the College of Liberal Arts, but the dean of the college and the architect overseeing the project held a press conference on Friday to say that the current building no longer meets the college's needs. NTU Graduate Institute of Building and Planning professor Hsia Chu-joe, who is opposed to the current plan, attended the press conference but declined to speak with the media. The planned new building is a corporate donation, but NTU officials say that it won't be constructed if the school affairs committee rejects the construction proposal. If this happens, a new construction plan will be drawn up. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
