With about three weeks left before the centennial of the Republic of China, celebratory events throughout the entire year have already been planned by the government to showcase the magnificent progress of the nation in its first 100 years.

New Year's Day 2011 will also be the first day of the Republic of China's centennial year.

A midnight fireworks show will be held at Dajia Riverside Park over the water, and a projection of the sun rising over the river will symbolize the start of the new year.

The government has a full slate of cultural, ethnic, technology, and athletic events and celebrations planned throughout the year, and expects that these events will allow the world to see the Republic of China's growth over the past century.

Vice President Vincent Siew has been tasked with overseeing the ROC's centennial preparatory committee, and his task force, which includes representatives from industry, academia, and the culture and arts realms, will meet to exchange views and suggestions on Sunday morning.

Due to the significance of the ROC's centennial year, record-breaking attendance is expected for New Year's Eve events and the New Year's Day flag-raising ceremony.
