The Taipei Fine Arts Museum has organized a retrospective exhibition for renowned local artist, Liu Keng-i, who has been working with oil paintings continuously up to this present day since the 1960s. Here on CTS, let's have a look at the painter's artistic styles and the philosophy behind his works. Standing beside his own work is 73-year-old renowned artist, Liu Keng-i. The work he is In the portrait sits a female figure bedecked in red with a delicate neckline and serene expression on her face. It is easy to see the artist's love for his wife from the detail and attention given to the portrait. Through oil painting, Liu Keng-i captures the beauty in human form and nature, two primary themes of his paintings. Some of his paintings in particular hold profound meaning and depth, such as this painting of three people on a bridge who each gaze off in different directions. While this may seem like a painting of rustic scenery, Liu meant to depict the pacing mood of society. Of a painting with so much depth and reflecting the emotions of society, Liu says that he always tries to capture the emotions and daily life of society. Besides painting, Liu also designs furniture, which he says was inspired by his own home.
