The Fushan Fishery Conservation Zone in Taitung is a hot destination among tourists because of its abundant marine life along the coastline. However, the frequent visits have led the people to overfeed the fish, causing pollution to the water because of the leftover bread crumbs. Volunteers are now urging the public to stop the practice to help protect the environment.

Almost each one of the visitors brings a bag of bread and head to the coral reef sea zone in the Fushan Fishery Conservation Zone to feed fish.

Very soon, the fish are well-fed.

Uneaten bread crumbs on the sea surface become garbage that contaminated the ocean.

But visitors didn't care and continue to toss bread to feed fish.

During the six-day Lunar New Year holiday, the area received more than 30,000 visitors who almost turn the sea zone into a sea of bread crumbs.

This phenomenon worries volunteers in the area as they believe the environment would be damaged if it continues.

Six years ago, the Taitung County Government banned catching aquatic animals and plants here in the zone and the effort paid off.

The place has since attracted more and more visitors.

About three years ago, volunteers proposed an idea to limit the number of visitors.

But since there's no door or walls, it's hard to implement the total number control of visitors.

While there are not many places like the Fushan Fishery Conservation Zone, visitors should do their part and not pollute the area with too much bread crumbs.
