The best-known Chinese artist of the 20th century, Chang Da Chien, was not only known as a painter but also as a gourmet. He has written down a cookbook 49 years ago, which contains recipes for 17 dishes. And the precious cookbook is about to be auctioned at FuJen University's charity event, with an initial bidding price at 1.6 million NT dollars. The late painter Chang Da Chien was know for his painting, yet not many know he is also a great cook. 49 years ago when Chang was in Paris working in restaurant, where he picked up his cooking skills, with 17 signature dishes, including the steamed short ribs, which his friends loved the most. The secret to great tasting steamed short ribs is to mix the ingredients together with the ribs by hand. The blenched beef slices are tender and tasty. Chang was originally from Szechuan, who can also cook the hometown dish of minced beef with thick rice noodles, which most of the restaurant now replace the noodles with mung bean vermicelli. Not all of Changs signature dishes are hot and spicy, Chang even save a friends marriage by cooking delicious food for the couple.
