Tsai's official entry into the presidential race has posed a serious threat to President Ma Ying-jeou's re-election bid, as Tsai only trailed Ma by six percentage points in popular support according to the latest poll.

But some DPP members worry that Chairperson Tsai's campaign may marginalize other contenders in the upcoming primaries and thereby jeopardize the party's internal unity.

After DPP chairwoman Tsai ying Wen announced her intention to run for president next year, many looked at it as a big battle she is preparing for the primary as if it is the presidential election.

However, some DPP members believe that, Tsai has the advantage as the chairperson to represent the DPP, but it might breakup unity within the party.

Besides Tsai, other members such as former vice president Annette Lu and Su JenChang are all interested in running.

As to the KMT, it understands the DPP heavyweights might threaten President Ma Ying Jeous chance of another term, and look at it as a warning for Ma must stabilizing commodity prices and other problems, showing results to win the trust of the people and not just rely on the fact that the KMT is the ruling party.

As the presidential election is next year, DPP is seeing Tsai aggressively preparing for the battle while risking losing party unity, on the other hand, KMT needs to worry about Ma dropping public support due to recent election losses to the DPP
